Lithium Solar Powered Generators – Goal Zero Yeti 400 Lithium Review

Whether you’re in need of backup power when the power goes out or camping out in the wild, having a reliable electric backup generator is a necessary investment. Electronics are an essential part of our lives, and having access to power is a must for your devices.

Goal Zero offers a different type of portable solar generator than the traditional gas ones. Their generators use the sun’s energy to store and produce power as opposed to burning fuel as a power source.

And with a lithium battery, the Yeti 400 Lithium offers portable power on the go. Being a new style of battery, there aren’t many like it on the market today….

Besides being a solar powered generator, the Yeti 400 Lithium is basically a large battery pack. You charge it via an external solar panel or an outlet and plug devices into it to charge them up, and you can carry it around like you would a cooler.

The Yeti 400 Lithium is very durable. It has a large carrying handle to support the 17lb structure and has thick, durable plastic surrounding the body of the battery. The modern design makes it easy to pinpoint the outlets, and the display points out what you need to know for optimal use of the solar powered generator.

But that being said, the Yeti is not just another battery box to power devices, it is a legitimate generator that provides you with the technology to assist you on your next camping trip.

The Yeti 400 Lithium gives you access to a multitude of charging options. You get two standard 120V outlets, three USB ports at 2.4 amps each, and two 12V connections for car use. You can use the cigarette lighter to charge it in the car, plug it into the wall, or use a solar panel or two to charge it up.

The disadvantages of this battery generator are – you cannot store this on an airplane. Large lithium batteries are prohibited on airplanes, so you don’t want to travel with these. Also, there is no USB-C charging output so you cannot charge your phone/tablet as fast as possible.

However, since the USB port in the Yeti 400 lithium supplies 2.4 amps, you can still fast charge your phone, it is just not as fast as it could be if it had the USB-C Output.

The Yeti 400 Lithium has 428 total watts hours. To put this into perspective, a phone charger uses about 12 watts, so you could charge your phone for about 35 total hours. Obviously, there is no need to charge your phone this much unless multiple people are using it.

Overall, the Goal Zero Yeti 400 Lithium provides portable power when you need it most, and compared to the standard lead-acid battery packs, this packs a punch, is lighter, and lasts longer, making it one of the best solar powered generators on the market today.
